Pentecost +9 – Year A
Listen!
A sower
went out
to
sow.
[how natural
it seemed]
And
as
[spectres rise
choruses groan]
the sower
sowed,
some seeds
[how now]
fell
on a path,
and
birds came
and
ate them up.
[how were
Hansel and Gretel
to return]
Other seeds
[all
have fallen
short]
fell
on rocky ground,
where
they did not have
much
soil,
[barren
wilderness
temptation]
and
they sprang up
quickly.
[visions of loveliness
danced in their heads]
since they had no
depth of soil.
But
when the sun rose,
[a sun
by any name]
they were
scorched;
[and sent
away]
and
since
they had no
root,
[fly away all]
they withered
away.
Other seeds
[oh
the horror]
fell
among thorns,
[a briar patch
of home]
and
the thorns
grew up
[as thorn
will do]
and
choked them.
Other seeds
[how long
o lord
how long
a song]
fell
on good
soil
[no
can't be
revisionist
is not all
lost]
and
brought forth
[a new
heaven
and
a new
fourth
after
a trinity]
grain,
[miraculous manna
lasting manna
new improved
manna]
some a hundredfold,
some sixty,
some thirty.
[some twenty
some ten
some one
some none
yet
all
blessedly sown
in bird's bellies
wilted
abused
and
whole]
